Relationship between religion and tarot?

Hi everyone!

I want to start by saying that I believe in the Lord, but I also believe in astrology and the mystical side of tarot. I’ve been interested in tarot and astrology for a long time, and after a lot of inner back-and-forth, I finally decided to buy my first tarot deck online (it’s pretty hard to find tarot shops where I live).

I’ve been reading guides and watching YouTube videos while I wait for the deck to arrive, but I keep having this lingering feeling that I might be doing something spiritually “wrong.”

Are there any religious people here who were taught that tarot is forbidden but still practice it? Or who’ve found a way to reconcile their faith with tarot? I’m being honest with myself — I’m probably going to read tarot regardless — but if there’s some kind of middle ground between my religion and connecting with my own energy and the world’s energy, I’d really like to hear about it.

The way I see it, tarot is just a tool for interpreting energy. The universe is God, God is energy, and that energy exists in everything around us. God is present in everything we see and touch.

In Abrahamic religions, people already seek God’s guidance in different ways — through scripture, prayer, or religious leaders like priests, rabbis, or imams. So I don’t really see why asking for guidance through tarot, charm-reading, or similar practices has to be any different.

To me, it’s simply another way of connecting with God in a way that feels natural and meaningful to you. And honestly, if you feel drawn to it, that connection might even be the way He wants to communicate with you.

I had this same question when I first started using tarot, since I also believe in God. The way I see it, using cards doesn’t automatically mean you’re signing up for some kind of occult, witchcraft, or demonic lifestyle (and no judgment at all toward anyone who is into those paths — we all follow what feels right to us).

For me, the cards themselves are just a tool. Whatever flows through them could come from many places, and where the message is coming from is ultimately up to the individual. Is it a spirit, an angel, ancestors, God, your ego, your subconscious — or something else entirely? Who really knows.

If the message resonates, then I believe it was meant to reach you. That’s just how I personally look at it.
