What’s a Good Guide for Thoth Tarot?

I’ve been working with the Thoth Tarot for a little while now and I’m realizing that my usual tarot books aren’t quite cutting it. I understand the basics, but with Thoth there’s so much extra symbolism, astrology, Qabalah, and Crowley-specific stuff that I feel like I’m missing half the message in my readings. I don’t necessarily want something overly academic, but I do want a solid guide that actually explains what’s going on in the cards instead of just glossing over it. So I figured I’d ask — what’s a good, reliable guide for really learning the Thoth Tarot?

You should definitely check out Understanding Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot by Lon Milo DuQuette. It’s super thorough, really well-written, and does a great job breaking down all the symbolism without getting too overwhelming. Personally, I found it way more helpful than most other Thoth guides out there.

I’d add The Thoth Tarot Companion by Snuffin to the mix. Also, definitely read Crowley’s Book of Thoth itself. Fair warning — you won’t catch everything on your first read, but it’s packed with insight that really deepens your understanding. A good approach is to compare Crowley’s explanations with other guides like DuQuette or Snuffin; that way you start connecting the dots and really get to the heart of the Thoth system.
