How many cards do you usually pull for a reading?

Hi everyone,

I’m curious how people decide how many cards to pull during a reading. Do you usually pull just one card per question, or multiple cards?

If you do pull more than one, how do you interpret the extra cards? For example, I often hear beginners should start with three cards, but I’m not totally sure how that works. Is it three cards for a single question, and if so, how do you assign meaning to each position?

I’ve also seen a lot of readings on TikTok where people pull what looks like dozens of cards really quickly, sometimes almost half the deck. I’m honestly not sure how they keep track of everything without getting confused.

So I’d love to hear how others approach it. How many cards do you usually pull, and how do you structure your readings?

Honestly, three cards isn’t just a beginner thing. I actually prefer three-card readings most of the time. It feels like the perfect balance — not too little information, but not overwhelming either.

For me, one or two cards can sometimes feel a bit limited, while anything over four cards can start to get messy or overly complicated. When there are too many cards on the table, it’s easy for the message to get muddled. If someone does want to use a lot of cards, I think it really helps to assign clear positions to each one beforehand.

Personally, I usually pull three cards per question. If I want to ask another question, I’ll either reshuffle the deck or just keep going, depending on how the reading feels.

I usually stick with three-card readings because I work with a three-position spread, so each card has a clear role.

The spread I like is called the Bridge Spread, which I find really helpful for advice or figuring out the next step.

The first card (left) shows where I currently am in the situation.
The second card (right) represents where I should be heading or what I should aim for.
The third card (middle) acts as the bridge between the two — it points to how I can move from where I am now to where I want to be.

As for the TikTok-style readings where people pull huge stacks of cards, I honestly don’t really get it either. For me it just feels excessive, and having fewer cards with clear positions makes the message much easier to understand.
