How many cards do you usually pull for a reading?

I’m curious how everyone decides how many cards to pull during a reading. Do you usually pull one card per question, or multiple?

If you do pull more than one, how do you work with the extra cards? Beginners are often told to start with three cards, but I’m not totally sure how that’s meant to work. Is it three cards for a single question, and if so, how do you assign meaning to each position?

Also, I see a lot of TikTok readers pulling what looks like dozens of cards, sometimes almost half the deck, and I’m honestly not sure how they keep track of everything without getting lost.

So yeah, how do you approach it? How many cards do you usually pull, and how do you structure your readings?

Honestly, three cards isn’t just for beginners. I prefer three-card readings most of the time. Feels like the sweet spot - enough info to be useful without getting overwhelming.

One or two can feel a little tight, and once you go past four it often gets messy and the message can blur. If someone wants to use more cards, I find it really helps to assign clear positions first or it turns into a jumble.

I usually pull three cards per question. If I have another question I’ll either reshuffle or just keep going, depending on how the reading is feeling.

I usually stick to three-card readings because I work with a three-position spread, so each card has a clear job.

The spread I use is called the Bridge Spread, and I find it really useful for advice or figuring out the next step.

First card (left) is where I am right now.
Second card (right) is where I should be heading or what to aim for.
Third card (middle) is the bridge between them - it shows how to move from here to there.

Those TikTok-style mega pulls never clicked for me either. They feel excessive, and I get clearer messages when there are fewer cards with defined positions.
