I agree with your first paragraph, but I differ in my perspective on the second and third, or at least not entirely. Being a hermit can be a temporary state, both historically and psychologically. It doesn't necessarily have to be a lifelong commitment. During this hermit phase, the individual may not be focused on romance; instead, they could be searching for something else, requiring solitude. It might also stem from feeling alone, perhaps due to the absence of someone they love or a lack of connection with their current companion. However, this doesn't imply a permanent retreat from social life, including romance. Personally, I've encountered the Hermit several times during crises and moments of solitude when I needed to reflect and find a new direction, but I haven't remained in my cave forever 😉
Regarding the Hanged Man, I perceive him as someone either stuck and stagnant or actively attempting to view things from a different perspective.
Considering the Hermit in the context of someone's feelings towards a girl, in addition to the other interpretations you've received, GraceM, they might feel a sense of loneliness when she's both present and absent. Further insights from other cards can provide a more comprehensive indication.
