Struggling to read the High Priestess — any tips?

Every time the High Priestess shows up in a reading, I just freeze. I know the traditional meanings — mystery, intuition, secrets, inner knowing, etc. — but when she actually appears, especially in different positions, my brain goes completely blank.

I’ve heard people say she shows up when the answer isn’t meant to be revealed yet, and sure, I can see that… but it can’t be that every single time, right?

I guess I just don’t know how to actually work with her energy in a way that feels grounded or makes sense in real-life readings.

Would love to hear how others interpret her, or how you approach this card when it comes up. Also — just for fun — are there any other cards that throw you off or feel kinda slippery to read?

Totally get what you’re feeling — she can be a tough one. The High Priestess isn’t always about hiding info; sometimes she’s nudging you to slow down and feel instead of trying to figure it all out logically. I totally relate — the High Priestess used to throw me off too, mostly because she doesn’t “talk” like the other cards. She’s more like a presence than a plot point, if that makes sense. For me, she often signals that you already know — but you're either second-guessing it or afraid to admit it. She’s not withholding the answer... she is the answer, but only when you’re ready to stop looking for confirmation.

One thing that’s helped: I started treating her less like a messenger and more like a mirror. What am I avoiding acknowledging? Where am I asking questions when I should be listening to myself instead? That reframe made her feel less cryptic and more empowering — kind of like a quiet friend who hands you a flashlight and says, “You know where to look.”

And as for slippery cards — Temperance. So calm, so balanced... and yet somehow always makes me feel like I missed something. Would love to hear how others deal with that one too.
