In the Rider-Waite deck, Judgement really is the Last Judgement. The card shows souls rising from graves to be judged, basically being asked if they’re worthy of heaven. Heavy imagery, but packed with meaning.
To me it’s about big, final decisions — like the universe or your higher self calling you out on what you’ve done and where you’re going. It’s not random; it’s tied to past actions, choices, and how much you’ve actually grown.
In the Fool’s Journey, Judgement sits right before The World, which matters. The World is completion, wholeness, wrapping things up. So Judgement reads like the last checkpoint: have you really learned the lessons? Have you let go of the old stuff that was holding you back? Are you ready for the next level?
So I see Judgement as a push to look at yourself honestly, face what’s been weighing you down, and clear it out. Whether it’s work, love, or life in general, the message is: you’re really close to a breakthrough, but you’ve got to prove it, mostly to yourself, that you’re ready.
